• #FlashbackFriday OK guys, bear with me: I'm feeling sentimental. I was scrolling through old Sensation movies and came across this one. It's an excerpt from the HOUSEQUAKE DVD which was a video registration of the summer of 2006. And what a summer it was! We were probably at the height of our popularity with the Housequake project, playing all the major festivals in Holland. In the previous Sensation video I posted, I was a fresh young kid sporting a 'just out of college' look. What a contrast to this one: somehow I convinced myself that wearing sunglasses day and night was cool. The Ricky Martin-esque blouse with a bare chest was not an homage to my South American roots but rather a wardrobe malfunction. Or free the nipple avant la lettre, if you will. Anyway, back then we had just shifted from vinyl to CDJs and VDJs. So that made performing on a revolving and reverberating stage much easier. I even had time for some dance moves in between mixing records. The video was shot by a very young Charly 'Final Kid' Friedrichs who later catapulted to fame creating the world´s best aftermovies for all the big name DJs and festivals. He perfectly captures MC GEE's speech with the swag that is often imitated but never repeated... so good seeing this again, and I am so looking forward to stepping back on that big revolving plateau one last time this Saturday for the last ever Sensation. The music you hear is created by the genius Sébastien Léger. • This is a tribute to the unsung heroes who make us DJs look great, but never receive the credit for it. Today we are rehearsing the closing set of our final A Day at the Park (July 15 Amsterdamse Bos). These days it is customary that such a big show is pre-recorded so light, video and pyrotechnics can be programmed in advance. This process is called show control. A ‘tape’ is started from the front of house control and the DJs on stage playback to the tape. When we were invited to host the closing set, the organization started talking about the last 30 minutes being a show control set. The look on their faces when Erick and I told them we don't want to do a playback DJ set was priceless. It is against everything we stand for, it is what we intensely dislike about the EDM genre, and what will ultimately kill that genre: it’s not real, it’s fake! So after the initial shock, the organization and the technical staff were really open to exploring the possibilities with us. Our spectacular HOUSEQUAKE shows are always live, mixing audio and video at the same time. The difficulty was getting the light, video and the pyrotechnics in sync with the music. To make it even more tricky, myself and Erick also loop our music constantly and have at least 3 audio channels open simultaneously. Today proved that these insanely talented people have fully understood our crazy vision. We play our set live yet the video, light and pyro are somehow all perfectly aligned. A big thank you to the technical staff and Day At The Park for their open-mindedness and faith in myself and Erick.

  • #ThrowbackThursday This is a video of the interview I did back in 2001 with Robin Jaydee Albers. I literally had just exited the stage after playing the first ever Sensation White. My career was taking off at the time and I was playing some big stages, but nothing compared to the 40,000 crowd in the Amsterdam ArenA. I had been really looking forward to that gig, but in reality it was rather a nightmare. Back in 2001 I was still playing with vinyl. Nowadays people see vinyl as something supercool, but they are not aware of how tricky this medium is in a live environment. The revolving stage and immense sub basses below it caused severe reverberation which can be disastrous for a tiny needle on vinyl. I distinctly remember the feeling of pure terror during this set, desperately hoping the needle wouldn’t fly off the record (which it did a couple of times unfortunately). To cut a long story short, when I see this interview it genuinely takes me on a trip down memory lane. For a long time I was too embarrassed to watch it again since it was clearly before the time I hired some professionals in an attempt to look like a cool DJ. Now I just smile when I see those student glasses, the 10 euro haircut and the youthful spots on my forehead. Above all that I feel grateful to have been part of the whole experience. To let me open such a prestigious show was a bold choice and a strong statement, it was the first time house music was played at such a big event. Respect to Duncan Stutterheim and the entire ID&T crew for their faith in me. I guess that despite the technicalities I must have done something right, because I was asked back a couple of times to play again. Now it´s hard to comprehend that this edition is the very last one, The End of an Era. I think I'm gonna cry now. See you all Saturday, and farewell Sensation White. #duncanstutterheim Eric Keijer #jeroenjansen #sensation #sensationwhite #lastsensationwhite #bigroomhousemusicbaby Sunnery James Ryan Marciano Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano Fedde Le Grand Hardwell Axwell Sebastian Ingrosso Michel de Hey (official) Joost van Bellen Man With No Shadow SICK INDIVIDUALS YAX.X MC GEE Mr. White Erick Eerdhuizen HOUSEQUAKE https://www.instagram.com/p/BWLHMLZBZ9c/
